What is a leader?
The word "leader" appears three times in Hebrews 13 (ESV verses 7, 17 and 24). The Greek word translated leader here means "to be in a supervisory capacity"* and refers to military, political and religious officials and rulers. But, this simple definition only scratches the surface. Through these 26-weeks we will paint a much fuller picture of a leader.
*Arndt, W., Danker, F. W., Bauer, W., & Gingrich, F. W. (2000). A Greek-English lexicon of the New Testament and other early Christian literature (3rd ed., p. 434). Chicago: University of Chicago Press.
Every day we are influenced by all kinds of ideas about leadership. Some of them are helpful; some of them are not so helpful. The Bible does not direct us to passively accept the wisdom of the day but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2). God's word has the ability to transform our thinking.

Over 26 weeks we will explore 26 sometimes counter-cultural sometimes counter-intuitive always thought provoking leadership concepts inspired by the New Testament's teaching and models of how to live and how to lead. There will be plenty to ponder and discuss, and the conversation will be richer with you along for the journey!

We will tackle one Leadership Concept a week starting with the ABC's: Admitting Fault, Blessing and Collaborating. As we work through the alphabet there will be plenty of new thoughts to challenge each of us, as well as some helpful reminders of things we learned once but may have forgotten along the way.

We will explore how Christian Leadership sometimes looks contrary to how we might naturally think about leadership. Not only that, it is often different from how we’ve seen leaders rule throughout the generations. As we go, we will allow the teaching in the New Testament and the model of Jesus Christ to change our way of thinking about leadership.

The plan is for each article to include a working definition for the leadership concept, Biblical references, a list of benefits of the concept for both the leader and the community they lead, an illustration or example and some ideas of how to start experimenting and implementing the concept in our leadership.

It's going to be a great journey! Join us!
